Bone Broth
Bone Broth
Eating a cup of bone broth daily will help you to ease point pain, heal a "leaky gut", have stronger hair, nails, and glowing skin!! I prefer my bone broth made into a simple soup with greens, onions, and cheese.
Equipment
- crock pot
Ingredients
- 1 onion cut into large chunks
- 5 stalks of celery, roughly chopped
- 10 cloves garlic whole and peeled
- 5 organic colored or orange carrots roughly chopped peel the carrots
- 5 bay leaves
- 4 quarts water
- 2 lbs beef, lamb, or venison bones ( with very little meat on them)
- 1 TB oregano
- 1 TB kosher salt
- 1 tsp ground pepper
Instructions
- Find bones at a butcher shop, preferably organic bones, you want bones that do not have much meat on them. Do not use soup bones, the meat will get nasty over 24 hours in the crock pot. I just talked to our local butcher at Main Street Meats and found out he gets bones every Thursday. The bones should be around $1-2/pound. For chicken, use a large package of drumsticks, try to skim the chicken meat out of the pot ( makes excellent pet food!) after 8 hours. You may also use pork, goat, or venison bones.
- Put the bones, veggies, and spices in the crock pot and add the water. Make sure the water covers the bones, if not add more water. Turn the crock pot on high for 3 hours, and then turn to low for 20 hours.
- Let the broth cool. Then drain all of the ingredients from the pot with a colander. Put the colander over a large bowl to collect the broth.
- You may drink the bone broth straight, or make into a simple soup with greens and cheese. Bone broth is excellent when breaking a fast or when you are not feeling well.
- French onion soup is my favorite!!

The more you cook the bone broth, the more gelatin and collagen is in the broth.
Collagen contains amino acids that support a healthy immune system.
